* If you are not using a shield then instead of your shielding skill your weapon skill (the weapon you are holding in your hand) is used to calculate the damage reduction.
* ...In fact, if your sword skill is over 5 skills higher than your shield skill, you will defend better with the avenger.
Although is probably the highest attack rating weapon currently obtainable and has physical protection, is the 2~3 attack really worth the substitution or vice versa; gaining the % physical protection.

Now answer me this.... Why would you wan't to loose out on defensive stats as a knight when you're on the frontline? Then when you have answered this you can go equip your shield and use your fucking 2H for hunting.

Didn't your mothers teach you to know what you're talking about before opening your mouths?. Singularity is absolutely right. Depending on your skills you COULD block more damage with a two-handed weapon than a one-handed weapon plus a shield.

Lets say you are a sword fighter. If your sword fighting skill is more than 5 skills higher than your shielding skill (which is often the case nowadays, since the shielding skill only advances in a 25% speed rate during offline training), the Avenger will defend better than an Emerald Sword plus a Mastermind Shield.

Just because most people believe that using a shield is superior, doesn't mean it is true. It's true in some cases, and other cases not. There is no way of saying that one of the alternatives is better for all knights. It depends on the difference between your offensive/defensive skills.

When u wear lets say a sword and a shield they both reduce damage. That means if u got mms 37 + the swords def not atk the def adds up and u got more defense.. and almost the same atk as crystalline axe or shiny blade

Say what? The sword will not reduce any damage whatsoever if you are wearing a shield. The swords defense and the shields defense never adds up. However, the defense modifier of a weapon will add up to the defense of the shield you are wearing.

Example:
The Avenger (Atk: 50, Def: 38) will give you a defense value of 38.
Emerald Sword (Atk: 49, Def: 33 +3) + Mastermind Shield (Def: 37) will give you a defense value of 40.

To know which of the above is best for you, you have to look at your skills. If your skills are 100/100, you will block better with Emerald Sword and MMS. However if your shielding skill is more than 5 skills lower than your sword fighting you will block more with the Avenger, meaning that a knight with skills 100/95 will block more damage and deal more damage with the Avenger.

That is the point given; both are situational, but given how Tibia calculates reduction based on defense/resistances would mean it is barely noticeable. The same goes for damage based on weapon attack and skills.

During the front-lines blocking would be useless. Only two targets can be blocked and only if they are melee, physical damage dealing targets (Knights). Paladins ignore shielding completely.

* Remember that 99% of the servers are users of an automation tool, and supplies are implicitly limitless. The only reason to use a shield is to save a few extra supplies from the limitless pool or for the useful bonuses it gives. As for a PVP situation, the majority are mages - it would be in your best interest to deal as much damage as possible to them.

Im old school from what i remember the defense of a shield and a weapon add up to create your total defense. If u relate this to "real life" the sword is used as a defensive and offensive weapon just as well as a shield.
