Dear OTLand Community,
I wanted to take a moment of your time to talk about the tools we probably use a lot which is basically AI assisting us in our work. AI has been a great tool to use in our coding adventure, being it for people who do not know how to write any code but also for those who actually use AI as a helping assistant for example for putting in your configs, like I use AI to do all configurations for me, if I have 50 recipes, I can give it to an AI and he will neatly fill it in for me saving me at least half an hour to an hour of work.
My main problem is that this forum has not have any specific rules for the usage of the upcoming AI workflows. This forum for me has always been the stepping stone into coding, especially since it's mostly open-source and continuing where other people have stopped. This is exactly how science works really, someone dies, another takes over the work, continuing the research. Now with AI being quite sufficient with programming, I've noticed, also with myself, that the one with no coding knowledge will completely rely on the usage of AI.
Which eventually means that scripts, systems and anything else, will eventually go through an AI before being posted on this forum, which doesn't stimulate learning how to code yourself, which is one of the things that makes creating your own server fun really, the learning and getting better and better over time.
I truly believe in a few years time, perhaps very soon, most of the content that will be posted here is purely made by AI and that is what disgusts me a little bit, it doesn't support learning the trade. And I believe some rules against AI postings will feel right in place here.
In no situation, should one be able to post code that has been fully generated by any AI, this in my believes, goes against what this forum should or could be.
Therefore I wish to call upon the moderators and administrators to think about this for a bit, and act upon what will probably be the destruction of OTLand as we know it.
The moment this forum gets taken over by AI scripts and systems, it will be a forum to neglect. Which for me is a sad venture, as the community of OTLand motivated me to make my own project (in development) as are so many others, I think it's time to think a bit about the future of this forum.
It seems hard to even recognize scripts made by AI but I believe when you know how to code, you can notice it instantly when something is coded by AI or not. Therefor I wish to have experienced programmers enforcing this behavior.
In my opinion, in most cases, AI should be discouraged, and learning the craft should be more encouraged.
AI should be a tool and not a solution. How can you ever understand your own server if you never code it yourself
