Compiling Allowing upper clients to access my server

I will go direct to the point, i have a 8.1 server and i want to make a 8.54 client to log in, i know that is weird and it will shoot lot of erros but i dont care of that, i dont want to change the server version just make it accesible by another client with high version, i know that i need compile, i got the sources and know how to compile, but dont know exactly what sources edit, anyone can help me with that?

I dont care of that mate, i will make the higher client compatible will almost everything to prevent debugs, just want to make my server allow it to access to the character list at least
