Animera | Mapping thread

The mapping is beautiful! Are these sprites normally found in the game?
Thank you! Yes, so far i have no custom nature sprites(yet).

Dont like the ”roof”(stairs). It would actually work as a roof in some cases, but the colors on the pic just doesnt match. Looks to wierd for me.

Anyway nice with an update!

I thought the turqoise with goldish would blend.. What would you suggest? :)

So cool! What kind of grass is that near the trees? And also the fallen leaves? What's the ID? Thanks!

Something i am working on..

If you are looking for feedback, then I can give a few pointers.
  • Groundborders at the corners of the waterfalls needs to be worked on. They're not pleasant to look at.
  • Floating borders aren't looking that great. I.e the stoneborders at the top left corner. They float above the water without any ground support. The highest point of the mountain also has some floating jungle grass over the edges that just doesn't look good.
  • Realisticly thinking, the waterfall at the highest point of the mountain can't really exist with that small amount of surface. It looks like the water is coming from nowhere.
I would suggest you to look at other mappers' waterfalls, and compare yours with theirs. It's always good to first map an own idea or a concept that you have, without looking at other peoples' work. Afterwards, it's very helpful to compare your finished product with other mappers', and rework your own.
If you're not looking for feedback, then just ignore my pointers.

I like the structure of the building above your latest post though.

Thank you for the feedback, i actually want to have feedback for sure. As there is still room for improvement...

I've never made a real waterfall porn what i've tried to make (which i am not really satisfied with, i wanted a 3 layer cake :X but acceptable)..

The reason i used the jungle grass to overlap is to give it some differences in style here and there..
I would expect somebody would said something about how realistic my water source is... but decided to keep it and to see the end result...

Now i also see i forgot to add some stones in the waterfall...

Thanks a lot anyway about your pointers, i will take them into serious consideration... I also wanted to compare my waterfalls with others... but i prevented to make sure that i wouldn't make very similar thing unconsciously..

Personally i think that its not bad making similar thing as other mappers, i mean.. i take inspiration from other mappers all the time.
Mackan, Shirako, Neon, blackstone, ghost and more. if you like how it look then why not make it yourself? maybe not copy it right off but even if it is similar you will unconsciously put your own touch on it, atleast thats how it is for me, like that frost cave entrance i made some time ago, cave entrance is pretty much rip off from a piece neon did years ago but the surroundings is not similar at all..
I for one wouldn't mind if you pretty much copy my maps, if you copy them it means you like them and i see that as a good thing.
taking inspiration and "copy" others work may get you to get an idea and then it turns out the end result is not even close to the picture that made you think of it.

the points Kaspar made is great feedback i must say, and you (and all other mappers) should actually take time to really learn making great waterfalls, it comes in handy in so many ways, a good waterfall can make that little extra and make any map pop.

great work tho, its nice to see some updates from ya mate! keep em comming! :D

I love the purple/violet clouds thing in "hell.png", nice theme!
Thanks <3 The idea came from here, map was originally from shirako.

Nice to see hell actually exists. It looks way cooler than I ever thought it would be.
If you remember correctly i've shown you and your guild (and some others) this spawn (before this custom sprites were added).
