best ot for linux? anyone managed to compile/run ot server in linux?

well, im currently using ubuntu. i tried everything. im running mysql "both 5.0 server " anx "xampp" my nmap shows that the 3306 port is available on both my local host and my internet ip address.

..im following the exact steps as many tutorials around here .. so anyhow. i was trying the latest TFS 0.3b3 or something. it compiled perfectly. i managed to get the schema.mysql also and got the tables, the status showed me that everythign is running
how'ever when i try ./theforgottenserver
i get this error

Failed connecting to database. MYSQL ERROR: Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)

i do know the password for mysql server "tried removing / reinstalling / messing with the setup files"

i cant seem to connect with my ip 172.0.0.1 or the my internet ip. however i dont see anything wrong with my port forwarding , like i mentioned nmap shows that the ports are already open when i scan my ip addresses.

anyone can help ? ..
maybe its the server im using? anyhow. im looking for a an OT that has real tibiamaps/quests .. maybe not 100% but most of it.

i'd appreciate the advice.

i dun think tfs works with ubuntu. only works with windows.

like i said i compiled it without a problem, i didn't get any errors. it seems my the problem is with Mysql settings? well, which version is the most stable one? im gonna give it a try. for 8.42 or something.

most of the people on google said i need to portforwad. sadly i've done that. like i said when i nmap my ports. i get 3306 opened which means i have mysql server up and running
