Hello,

i just want people to brainstorm server ideas, which server would get popular and etc..

Ex.
Noob war
Rl Map
Pokemon

etc...

I see a fair amount of interest in pokemon servers. That might be a good server.

100% custom servers like Necronia would be nice as well.

Well, i would not dare to take the custom server road based on tibia sprs. Since we all know that they ending with to little players and dying.

War Servers- Don't really see many war severs, haven't played one in so longggg :/ would love to see a nice one but the problem is that pretty much every war server will have op donations.. or it will be just regular tibia vocations with same old spells, which isn't really any fun, for me at least..

Real Map- This what I hate about OT's. At least 70% of servers are boring and dull real maps. They have no creativity, it contains the same old stuff that's been around for countless of years.. Real maps are absolute trash imo, and I wouldn't even play one, even if I got paid too.

Pokemon Servers- I've always enjoyed Pokemon servers and had a ton of fun! It brings nostalgia :) but the thing is that most Pokemon servers out there are filled with a bunch of non-English players(polish, brs, swedish, etc..) and like no English speaking players whatsoever... which gets on my nerves.. no offense.. but seriously..

Custom Servers- These are really the only servers I will play, and actually enjoy! But it really depends. I'm so sick of all these Evolution, Forgotten, and other over used maps. All people do is literately edit the temple a bit.. and then call it their server. lol what a joke. My definition of a custom server is a server that contains a lot of custom. Not just a custom map. No. That is not a custom server. A custom server contains custom items, monsters, spells, classes, quest, and so on..a custom map, and like 1-3 custom items/spells is hardly a custom server.
My thoughts- When making a server it all depends on what you want. If you want a lot of people then I'd suggest a real map or a nicely edited evolution server, and preferably 8.6 because hey.. we all know this community likes to bot....... If you want a smaller but more active and dedicated group of people i'd say to go for a true custom server. Then again custom servers take A LOT of time, and balancing takes quite some effort. It will most likely end up dying unless you make it in right fashion. The only successful custom servers are those who've had previous and well made servers, such as Chaos, XDC, Deathzot, RoA etc..

Honestly the only war server I ever liked was a team death match.

I always thought a cool war server would be team death match, and cap everyone at around the same level.
Use a script to calculate scores.
When a team reaches the winning score, it teleports all the players to a new area of the map for them to fight on and resets the scores after announcing the winner.

Sort of like a Team Fortress or CSS set up, when someone wins the game it switches to another map.
If that makes sense. :P

Well, as a long time member of this community and a developer of custom OTs, I feel a bit obliged to contribute to this thread, or at least to share my point of view on how things should be done to attract 'players' generally (not just to the OT, but back to the community).

OT was created for one purpose - not to be a copy of Tibia, but to be something new, to give us the possibility to create whatever we want to. However, I feel like 2012-present is probably the darkest era of OT. We've seen OTFans fall, OTLand change, and many great servers die. But we must move on... If we are to revive back the scene, we have to think, contribute and participate. I believe we, as a community of Open Tibia fans, should stop consuming and mass producing the stereotypical cancer which is killing the scene and further accelerating the downfall that you can probably feel has already begun.

But let me show you something. This is what people are doing, this has somehow become a norm for 90% "developers" here.

If you are one of these people, you need to change. Not because some random guy said so, but because you are a parasite feeding off of the work and effort of this community which you will kill with your behavior.
Here are my views and reviews of the current scene, as well as some new ideas. This should give you an idea of what to do/not to do:

RL Maps:
RL maps, for one, are suffocating the community (No disrespect to those few who actually put massive effort in their RL map server and made it something worth trying out, different from the other DL/RUN rl maps).
The scene is flooded with them and this is what happens:

  • People who want something new/custom can't find it, it's mostly RL maps. They potentially lose interest and hope, and might even decide to totally withdraw from the OT community, seeing as there is nothing interesting here for them anymore.
  • People who like RL maps - these people will not be in this mindset for a long time. If you are one of them, you may disagree right now, but there will come a time when you will wake up. RL map servers are basically a recycled version of the same exact thing that nobody even puts effort into remaking to be at least different from the others. It all comes down to the same thing. Hunt same creatures, equip same items, go into same pointless pvp battles before you realize this kid who paid $50 for full donator 1000 ATK set will wreck your whole guild anyway. How long do you think this can go on? Certainly not forever. And when you get bored of it, you'll either become a person who wants something new (see paragraph #1), or completely withdraw from OTs.
So in my opinion, producing this shitbrained garbage is a one way ticket to murder the OT community. Don't be that guy who aids this cause. Bonus:

"Oh, what's this? You remade your thais and added some new counters in the depot? You added gengia and oken? Oh look, your addons give you bonuses on this server. Oh my god this is so cool and custom, something I've never seen before!"
-- Nobody, Ever.

Rating: 0/10 , absolutely disgusting.

Forgotten/Roxor/Evo:

These servers were pretty unique, fun, and massively played at the time when they came out. Anyone remember which version of tibia/TFS was this? I do.
These were the times when teleport servers were revolutionary. Anything from having a new currency, to 'addon dolls', custom named monsters and new wave spells was IMPRESSIVE, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed exploring such content. See how I'm talking in past tense? Yeah, 2007 called, it wants its servers back.

They still have an aspect of gameplay that I believe players love which is the quick access, fast paced gameplay, and a lot of 'different' stuff. I will always prefer these servers over RL maps, but they've lately become such a cliche and are starting to fall into the same category as RL maps, in terms of the effect it leaves on the community.

You know what would be great? A completely new server of this type, with totally new monsters, teleports, unique tricky quests, and for GODS SAKE - new temple/depot area. Every server of this type is literally the same, they just remake the temple/depot with different walls and tiles. What's up with that?

You know what would not be great? To download any kind of a server, edit the temple area and host it as your own server. Bonus:
"Oh, finally a new roxor, this looks like something new. I mean look at these new tiles, new walls...
*enters the monster teleport area* *sees everything is completely the same like in previous 40 roxors he played* *wants to shoot self* "

-- Everyone, Ever.

Rating: 4/10, living off of its old fame, but still has potential if done correctly.

Anime Based OTs
Anime based OTs are awesome. I personally do not like the majority of them because they are almost always based on Animes that I don't like. However, no one can deny the amount of effort and creativity it took to take that step and transform a normal tibia client into a completely different one, functioning with a whole new gameplay system based on new ideas and game mechanisms.

These servers almost always have thoroughly edited clients, sprites, and content in general.
I've only played 2 so far (DBZ, Pokemon), and I absolutely loved both of them for the most part.
These projects are also (almost always) serious projects, so you should generally see no overpowered donations, corrupt staff, etc.

It also helps that the ideas/concepts for these kinds of servers are already completed and delivered by the creators of the anime itself - you just have to incorporate/translate them into the game, which reduces you effort (albeit being a tad selfish). This also gives you a premade fanbase.

The BIGGEST, and probably the only major problem I have with Anime based OTs is that they are 99% adapted to a language that is not English. You'll find these servers will come with fully translated polish/brazillian client, website, gameplay and stuff. Why? This is a huge waste and a major turn-off for anyone except people who speak that language. Limiting your player base by using a language other than English is really not cool.

Bonus:
"Why are these looktypes not in tibia perspective? They look so weird man..."
-- Everyone, Ever.
Rating: 8 / 10, it's almost never in English, and concepts are not original. Still, great effort, great implementation, potentially enjoyable content and is attractive for a massive playerbase.

Totally Custom OTs

With today's OT development tools and software, you virtually have no limits on what you can make in the 'tibia' world. So why not take a blank canvas and make your own masterpiece?

Create your own story and tell it through the game. Immerse players in a projection of your visions and ideas.
Everyone's mind is different, and we can all come up with a different story, with different thoughts and ideas.
Isn't that what game development is all about? Don't worry about donations or the playerbase.
You are here to provide for the community and that should be your only goal. The community will return the favor if you deliver.

There are infinite ideas you can turn into an OT server. Why leech other people's stuff?
Come up with an idea and develop it into an OT server.
You have all the knowledge available to you on the internet.
Learn, develop, deliver.

By creating something new, you will automatically drag attention to your server. Just because it is unknown and unique, people will most likely want to at least TRY it. This is all you need.
Once they log in, they are in the world you made. If you made that world interesting enough, they will certainly stay. This is up to you and your creativity and the ability to present your content.

Some people like to choose RPG because that gives them a lot of room for writing and unveiling a grand story. Other people will settle for something less complicated and more fun. If you can't come up with anything, here are couple of ideas from me that might give you that boost of inspiration:

Racing Server - Make numerous characters and give 3 abilities to all of them. Make racing maps where they will have to out-run the others and finish all the laps. They can pick up power-ups that spawn on the map, and they can use their 3 abilities to gain advantage over the others. With each race you finish, you gain gold, and then you can use that gold to purchase upgrades for characters, for to unlock new characters for your account.

Age of Flora - Make a server where the player will be able to detect and catalog every type of plant that he sees in the gameworld. Player will gain special experience points by doing this, and advance in Florist levels. You can use these Florist levels as gameplay device that gives the player some advantage, or even makes him win the game. When you die, you can lose records from your plant catalogue.

Arena Server - Make a server where players will fight monsters in the arena. Each challenger can drop items, but also gives gold upon death so you can purchase new stuff for your char. from the vendors in the lobby.
You can also challenge other players to arena duels, as well as go into team-arenas where multiple players fight multiple monsters. There are over 500 looktypes in tibia. Think about it.
Bonus:
"What is this, a server where you play as Zelda - trying to save Bowser who was captured by Darth Vader and taken into Gotham city? Oh, and you level up by killing Badniks and the golden rings are the currency? AWESOME."
-- Everyone, Ever.
Rating: 10 / 10, your world, your imagination, your hands.

I hope TheImaginedServer project makes it easier to make custom OTs for all of you who want to. (It might even make RL Map OTs more interesting)

Also - There are already Pokemon servers, why would we need another one? Or are they all bad?

I agree with @Flatlander ,

i can check the "theimaginedserver" and have too much features to make one custom server.

Well if I could get some help id love to make a pokemon server. I posted about it in the Job section of the forums. Utilizing the original maps and all the pokemon and making a pretty decent server.. then try and get a lot of English speakers to play. If I could get some help in creating one it would be great... anyone that could help feel free to add me thru Skype using my email [email protected]

I got some ideas and id love to make a decent tibia server as well. taking the normal map and completely reforming it... also ive got a great idea for new vocations and all new spells.. if anyone is interested let me know and lets see if we cant get something going....

Respectfully,
Raging~

If Necronia is anywhere near as good as your writing then it looks like we're in for a treat.

Reading your replies was a delight and I couldn't have put it better myself. I found myself agreeing with everything you said as I was reading it.

If you want to make a good server, listen to this guy, sounds like he knows what he's talking about.

+1

Well the best war ot i've played was an ot called Ultra-war, it had 1 city with alot of traps and houses ( which i like) since in my opinion waring is about mwall, trap & kill. It was alot of fun and the ot survived for 6-7 months. then it closed, tho the only problem in war ots is the multiclienting :P
