When the German attack on Poland on 1 September 1939 finally led Britain and France to declare war on Germany, King summoned Parliament to "decide," as he had pledged. Declaration of war was postponed for a week, during which Canada was formally neutral. The government announced that approval of the "Address in reply to the Speech from the Throne," which stated the government's decision to support Britain and France, would constitute approval of a declaration of war.
On September 9 the address was approved without a recorded vote, and war was declared the following day. The basis for parliamentary unity had in fact been laid in March, when both major parties accepted a program rejecting conscription for overseas service. King clearly envisaged a limited effort and was lukewarm towards an expeditionary force. Nevertheless, there was enough pressure to lead the Cabinet to dispatch one army division to Europe. The Allies' defeat in France and Belgium in the early summer of 1940 and the collapse of France frightened Canadians. The idea of limited and economical war went by the board, at which point the only limitation was the pledge against overseas conscription. The armed forces were rapidly enlarged, conscription was introduced June 1940 for home defence (see National Resources Mobilization Act), and expenditure grew enormously.

We didnt get invaded by Nazi's because we had Naval power. How many soviets died btw? Wasnt it like 10 soldiers for every weapon in russia? + The only reason you can ask any history teacher (and my history teacher even wrote a book on this war its due to release in this spring coming up) that we won the war because of a western front. Oh and Hitler persuaded the british pm Chamberlain to think that they were nice not evil people, but when churchill came to power he did go to war and so did Canada and France + Russia. All because HITLER INVADED POLAND. Usa joined later and everyone says when Japan struck pearl harbor everyone says they awoke a giant and they did. Dont forget while Canada was fighting in Europe we were also fighting in the east in China vs Japan. 10 years later also fought the korean war because Russia tried to introduce communism to the south and it didnt go well. Canada did more and you got to realize that but your too ignorant so im done complaining. You got no respect for a country of great power.

You cant just go to war like that. The first day Nazi's invaded Poland was when they first declared war. You have to recruit and you have to get money and you have to prepare for war. you cant just go balls deep. They came they helped and we conquered so dont complain. They werent scared they were persuaded just how the Italians were persuaded. And we easily defeated the italians and our devils brigade with the us and canada easily marched through them. We stood years vs Germany as i said we fought 4 wars vs them, but you clearly dont understand.
Actually im going to major history in college and culinary aswell. Ive taken world history, canadian history and ancient history. Dont act like i dont know my history.
