Can someone tell the story of the otservers?

Hey guys, I was thinking that I don't really know how was the first attempt to create an ot server, what year, by who and how the first rl map was taked from cipsoft. who create the first open source code and decode the otb, spr's, the first editor, im interested on our history xD

anybody have stories or know information about that era? I think it would be very interesting to all who love Open Tibia.

thanks and be safe!

basically: in 2005~2006 cipsoft made an update via a remote server and it got leaked. People started messing with original files and doing reverse engineering to understand how to read bytes of client and so on. After that there was two branches in the community: people who attempted to create servers out of original files and people who invested in making a new engine out of it.

How OT started:

How CipSoft files leaked:

You can always dig around on Wayback Machine (https://web.archive.org/) searching "tibia.gamigo.de", "otfans.net", and others.
Fragments remain, but a determined person could piece together the full timeline of all the projects/tools released & prominent teams/devs if they had the drive to.

I've forked a collection of new & old projects here: Open Tibia Archives (https://github.com/OpenTibiaArchives)
The commit history is still intact, this list is not exhaustive though, there were a lot of tools, distros, and devs.

Neat! I didn't know there was some 6.4 server stub.

I followed @Syntax advise and ended up here =( So sad it's not available without logging in (almost all subpages are gone and not archived).

Well of course :D
Web crawlers can only take the state of the public website unless they also associate a session. Even if it was able to crawl with an authorized session, I'd doubt the archive would keep arbitrary downloadable files... it didn't even keep images.

Edit: it does keep some images, I wonder if it's extension based, or maybe the paths are messed up. Anyhow, very nice rabbit hole to explore!

Edit2: czech this out, actually lol'ed at this one:

I don't know how it's done but one or two weeks ago I've downloaded whole set of old Tibia clients from tibiaclient.com via web archive.
Btw @Syntax in your archive there is a ots written in C#, but I haven't seen this client in C# :p hjnilsson/sharptibiaclient (https://github.com/hjnilsson/sharptibiaclient)

edit
Is it related to the actual Zezenia?
