Linux Changing to LINUX

Hello everyone, I bought a vps and my ot grown up quickly and with that the pings start, I tell you than now in my server every 5 sqms a freeze comes... 5 sqms I walk perfect and then a freeze... Im using windows and all people say to me that Linux is more safer and can manage better the server and even stop the lags... I am going to change but I wanna know, now im having windows 7 64 bits, using modern aac on uniform server and tfs 0.4, what do i have to change for put my ot on, on linux?
