but i dont understand this step:

gdb theforgottenserver core.pid

i dont know how to view that when i do gdb theforgottenserver core.21314 nothing special happens

you were supposed to use the gdb command where, a core dump is not necessary unless you want to analyze the working memory later on

go to the place where the core file created and type this
"gdb theforgottenserver core.pid"
then wait a bit and type "bt"
