Compiling Dedicaded Linux Server

In a few days I'll buy a dedicaded Linux server from serveloft and I need to know a few things before buying.

(I have Windows 7 right now with tfs 0.4.)

I've been reading some tutorials about compiling in Linux
(ex. http://otland.net/f479/linux-ultimate-compile-guide-debian-ubuntu-included-2868/)
but in what "program" do I execute the commands? in FileZilla? :O

Please help me and tell me what I need to think about when I transfer my Windows to Linux.

You are executing the commands in the bash. Filezille is for FTP. You should login on the server via ssh. If you are on Windows, download Putty to connect to the server.

You should have a knowledge of Linux, before buying a Server.

And how do I get knowledge without having Linux? ;/

Its like cmd on Windows. :thumbup:

Maybe you install Linux as virtual machine? Or dual boot. So you can choose between Linux and Windows when you start your Computer.
