So the other day I installed Linux - Debian 6.0 on a dedicated server and compiled tfs 3884. Is there anything I could have installed wrong that would cause players to have some step lag in-game. The game server seems to be stable, no crashes - just some ingame walking latency issues which shouldn't be happening.

Server:
OS: Debian 6.0 64bit
CPU: Intel i3 (2 cores / 4 Threads) 3.4GHz+
RAM: 8 GB DDR3
Hard disk: 2TB SATA2
Bandwidth: 100Mbps

Ive done tracert and pinged the server and there is no packet loss and average ping is 28ms which is definitely playable with no step lag. But there is something there causing it.. any ideas?

Edit: I'm actually thinking its just my router needing a reset. Will try it then post back with the results.

Here is your problem: compiled tfs 3884.

By using a old server engine, it contains bugs and leaks.

I dont think its the engine fault, that much. It could be a script.

10~ players, I have to admit there has been 2-3 people saying they have a great connection. So I don't know..

@Printer,
I have used 3884 before on Linux (not me compiling) and it ran fine with no lag.

If we are not going to use 3884 for 8.60 then what distro would we use for it?

There were some newer revisions of 0.3 downgraded to 8.6 that would probably be more stable.

@Thread, it's most likely a script causing lag. Disable all of your non-default globalevents and creaturescripts and see if the problem is fixed.

I think its just that I need to reset my modem or comp to get a new fresh connection to clear anything on my end. Since I havent changed scripts at all on the server. I still haven't even restarted my computer though to see if that helps, but it seems other people have a clean connection since they are pvping and not complaining so maybe its just me.
