Ping is something computers use to check each other.. it's like you would send your friend a sms "Hey dude, are you awake?".
But sadly, some people use these functions to attack other people. in so called "Ping Attacks", or the really gay one they call "Ping of Death" (seriously.... if you think you're a badass with that go kill yourself)
Ping is mostly a coward technique used in wars in games.
When someone can't handle that there's people, being better than them, higher lvls, fighting better etc.. so they use ping in attempt to make the enemy lose control over his char, and eventually die because he can't do anything against it.
If you wasn't aware of it, it is illegal to ping other people, in some countries you can even go to jail for doing such.
You can use CMD commands to ping, using some codes you can modify the size of the ping, and length.

DDos
DDos isn't someone throwing bananas at your home, you can't defend against it by just closing a window and clean up the mess later.
This screen explains a little what DDos really is:
Doing DDos is incredible illegal as it's not only attacking and making some people unable to use internet (violating someones rights).
But it's also very serious in the subject spreading viruses.
To build a "Bot-Net", a network of Zombies, you need to get control over them using viruses and spread it.
It's not possible to defend yourself against DDos... the only defend you can do, is having power enough to not be completely effected by it.
No matter your firewall, the attacks are coming, it will block your internet not matter what magic words you use... (exura sio "modem)
There are services you could use that works like a proxy (internet tunnels) that's very powerful, and that filter the attacks from the real internet usage, and send the internet usage to you, and the attacks to themselves.
The real name of "DDos" is "Distributed denial-of-service attack"

However, things you can protect yourself from is, is the one called "Dos" or in full name "Denial of Service attack".
This kind of attack is that the attacker tell your computer, to send files to the attacker, for example images.
The incoming attack normally never passes 0,5 Mb/s in Dos, however the output from your computer could be as bad as 100 Mb/s.
Also the attacker use to spoof his IP address, make your computer try to send images, to an unvalid IP address, which in some cases cause your computer to attempt sending the image several times.
This is normally the one people misstake with DDos and say to OT owners "you fucking noob get some DDos protection" which doesn't work that way.
Dos protection is simple to get by using certain programs that will ignore such requests, so the computer can't send images like that.

Hack spoiler about banks.
Barely nobody knows it, but hacking is very common, lets say like this.
Internet is wires and signals and codes. Wherever there's an code, there's a way to get into it without having the authority to do so.
I mean, if you lock your door to your home, does that mean it's 100% that nobody could ever get in?.... no it does not.... bazooka and half your home is gone and anyone could enter and steal your milk in the fridge.
So this spoiler will make you aware, that you can never be safe on internet.
Banks, they're having hacker attacks daily.
Everyday, most banks around the world build an buffert of money.
And everyday, some hacker steals your money on your bank account, but the bank sense it and replace the missing amount, with the exact same amount from their buffert.
Which means, you've lost your money, without knowing someone just a few minutes ago just cleaned your bank.
The buffert is mainly to make banks able to "hide hackers", because, which person would want to use a bank that gets hacker-robbers every 3 days cleaning your account?
Nobody..... so they silence it, and replace your money in matter of seconds every time someone steals it.
Pentagon, yes, THAT pentagon, in America...
They are the most hard thing to hack, it's military stuffs there, top-secret stuffs.. Yes.
Still, they've been hacked before, and every day hundreds of hacker try to hack them. (maybe it was YOU!!!!)
How do they do to avoid being hacked? using a firewall? using Avast Free antivirus? let their internet pass through virustotal.com? let your grandma's cat watch the tunnels for badasses?
No, they're using about 40 firewalls in a row..
1 long fucking wire, that goes through 40 firewalls before entering any server computer.
And every firewall is monitored by paid staff, to overlook for hackers and stuffs.
If a hacker passes 2-3 firewalls, they will shut down the entire system, and update it... to avoid hackers get too close to the main servers.
And to make everything harder for hackers, they update their encryptions every 5 minutes.
While we talk about Pentagon, lets bring their DDos business into this thread, as said, you can't protect yourself from DDos..
How does Pentagon do? well... Pentagon owns the biggest, or one of the biggest "Bot-Net" in the world. (nobody can know which one is the biggest, we can only guess and assume)
