You need correct permissions for your folder:

chown -R www-data.www-data /var/www

chmod -R 777 /var/www

(If this works, "reinstall" the website files and chmod the folders and files which need permissions)

Not sure where you are reffering to. Could you explain the error?
To me it seems like the database isn't setup correctly.
