Linux Help with running a server

Hello, Im new to linux ubuntu, Im getting a new machine to host from, I have a nice stable server on my windows 7 machine, I want to move the server and all the work Ive put into it to a machine running ubuntu. Could someone please help me? I dont know how to get a server on linux.

Learn how to compile on linux

Then check so all your files are case sensative correct (Linux see difference between A and a)

Run the server using screen
