Holding more players with less lag?

I would like to know, what i should buy to hold more players with less lag, my dedicated server :-

Hard disk: 250 GB
CPU: P4 3 Ghz HT Technology
RAM: 2048 MB
Traffic: UNLIMITED

What should I increase?

Ram?

Hard disk?

or what? i just need it to hold more players with less lag

Harddisk is not import for OT hosting because you usually get 120 GB HDD when ordering the server anyway.

More RAM and more bandwidth ofcourse. If you are having a popular ot server, then you should aim for a really high bandwidth, go for a 10 000 and you'll be able to have as many players you want.

RAM: 4 or 8

Internet speed: try to get as much upload speed as you can.

I guess that was everything, if you can afford this you wont have to worry about lags or freezes in your server.

And about the traffic you think or say you got on there server, is a LIE.

There is nothing like "Unlimited Bandwidth", so the company is lieing.

You will probably still lag under Windows machine... Unless you have like 16GB of RAM.

But, HDD is very important here. Not its size, but its speed. You want to get an HDD at least with 10,000 RPM with 32MB Cache.

MySQL is very hard on HDD and RAM, so once you optimized your my.cnf file for your server everything should be good.

And your hosting company charges you 99EU/month for 1GB upgrade?? That is outrageous...
