Hey guys a while was thinking of opening a server, but I was just too long without dropping the project, but now with the arrival of the holiday I thought I'd return to work the same. As I do not know if the server will succeed or not so I thought I host provisionally at home on a pc with the following settings:

Memory: 8GB
HD: 500GB
process: corei5
upload conection: 0.8mb or 800kbps

Could handle as many players on average on windows and linux? Or not worth it because I do go down all the time and I'll just be wasting time.
Another thing I would like to know is whether it is possible to compile on ubuntu OTServer 13:04

Solution
haha dude get atleast 50 mbps upload speed or even more.
100 mbps is fine.

Ur bandwidth wouldn't even handle 50 players without lag

False. 50 - 100 players should go fine if he avoids messy AACs with big images.

Ofcourse he will be very vulnerable to dos attacks, but thats another discussion.

Should work fine.
The computer specs would probably be enough, but that upload speed is not that good :S

If you are planning to have lots of players online (500+) your server will be REALLY laggy.
