How much do mappers usually charge for a map?

In my opinion it really depends on the skill of the mapper, the level of detail in the piece and the amount of time put into it. Don't get fooled by "I've done x hours for this piece " - we've had an example last week.

I'd just ask previous work of any mapper and get middle ground on a hourly rate. Just monitor how he's doing in the progress of creating the piece, so you can spot errors early or discuss further progress. This way you prevent unexpected surprises like wasting time and shitty maps.
