I am not a very computer girl, recently I've been downlading several kind of servers on a frozen computer, trying and testing all the news about open tibia, I have found servers that I'd like to keep for myself forever and to pass on my main computer but I lack of skills for detecting viruses.

Is the antivirus enough? What kind of tricks I need to be aware? Is there a tutorial for this kind of questions?

Thanks for your patience

It would help to scan files here: VirusTotal (https://www.virustotal.com).

  • Because every virusscanners is different and may be better then the other virusscanner in different situations.
  • Also it helps to open/run/unpack files in a environment that cannot harm you (e.g. sandboxie, virtual machine).
  • A bit of common sense to see through the 'scam' or 'sketchy sites/sources' etc.
  • I have some good experience with malware bytes / hitman pro.
  • Always have your OS updated (especially updates that are made for safety reasons).
  • Check your task manager for suspicious looking applications or your folders for suspicious looking files(which you probaly won't know if the supicious files are somewhere in the os files or...

  • Google. <-- You can find a lot of information there.
  • Do not open/accept randomly files from strange people, that are sent through skype or w/e.

7.1-8.6 (or custom anime servers) are a roulette - either false positives because they had remote control feature, or infected because they have keyloggers. Using vmware or virtualbox would be your safest way to run them if you don't have other computers.

8.7-10.98 - if virus scans online detect something, it's usually infected

11+ - I don't know, though it's probably the same as 8.7-10.98

BTW just FYI: even pdf files can contain virusses (as you say you lack 'skills'). may be worthy general information for you (or others).

You serious? A PDF? Oh my how is that?

I can't tell you much technichal (as i miss information myself) about it, but afaik there is just some piece of bad code attached to a file, that triggers upon opening it.

It doesn't happen often but still it is important to keep your 'common sense'.
