how can I edit the source code in linux?

Depends on Linux distro and if it's desktop enviroment or not. But simply, using text editor .

Yeah exactly, you can find some tutorials how to compile there: Basic

If you're using non desktop, use nano else it depends on what desktop enviroment u using

With desktop version you must first make chmod (sudo su > chmod -R 777 /home/chris/YOURSERVERPATH ) command and then you can simply edit it with Gedit (Ubuntu)
