Lua How to make an item

I am trying to make a custom item with the same looktype as another item. But without changing the original item.
Where would I add this? Which part in the data makes items LOOK like the item and which part actually gives them that item id so I can spawn it with /i example id?

Thanks. I ended up making a new item but it turned out to just be that fiery looking tile.
