How to start /close server exe via putty

Hey there, i would like to start my server via putty on my Vps. Anyone know the command?

cd /foldername/foldername/foldername/ etc.. don't know where your server is...

./theforgottenserver or whatever that thing from yours is called that runs your serv.


and closing is ctrl+c.

But if i use a Real server and i start the server pressing Real-Server.exe like on my windows. How do i do then? Heard someting about compile but haven't found any good guide for my problem..
