I have a question about server requirements?

I was wondering what kind of server specs you'd need to support how many players.

Like, for example,
My OT is running TFS 1.2 on an Ubuntu VPS with 50gb HDD, 512mb RAM, and a dual core processor.

How many players would that support? 100 say?

What kind of server specs do you need to support say 1000 players?

I guess my question is, how do your server needs scale in comparison to your player load?

Well, my server has 100mbit connection, i think that's the standard for most small dedicated servers and VPSs.
Or do you mean the speed of the player's connection?

I should add, I do not host my own server, I rent it from a very reasonably priced company who shall remain nameless.

My question was about professionally hosted servers, not a home server, I guess a home server is all down to your net speed.
