How long have you been mapping?
That actually looks pretty good if your a beginner :)

Mapping is not easy by any means and is definitely something you want to take your time with.

If I were mapping I would do the ground tiles 1st, no borders or details.
Once I had the basic layout I would start adding in borders, walls or greenery.
After the map starts to take shape I would add in decoration like move-able objects, splatters and then fields.
Finally I would add in my monsters, npc's and or scripts.

Just take your time with it, save every revision of your work because you can always import small pieces of a map into bigger pieces.

Hope that was helpful :)

This is actually the first map i've ever done.. Just dled Remeres and tried it and came out with this in 5-10 mins.

I added some more work if anyone has any opinions

It's a bit strange to say but you should add and remove details. You should detail the nature more: grass tuffs, bushes, some trees and natural borders - make it with raw, preferably. (See image). And you should remove the random shit like all the rocks and stalagmites, crystals, dead spiders etc. It looks really spammed now. Think about what you're going to place and where, and if it makes sense. Crystals and stalagmites are for underground caves, etc.

The bridge is pretty unrealistic and aswell are the houses. They have a somewhat... odd shape. Try to make them like people would build them in real life. Houses aren't exact squares mostly and especially not the form you used at the house left of the trainers.

As you said before, this is your first map. It's really good for a first timer, so keep it up and I'd like to see improvements.

In my opinion, like every mapper you can get excited about the limitless possibilities.
That's why you're over-detailing. Try to reduce the details in your map.

Another good advice would be: tutorials.
Look at as many tutorials as possible and you will understand what good mapping means, and what you should avoid doing.

Good luck!

Constantly looking at the tutorial section.. In page 5 and half way down.. Learned abit but i'm still not sure how to put these tutorials in with My style.. I'm not into the average 3 bedroom perfect squared home.. i'm into odd shapes and new styles but i'm learning about detail and such..

What is your experience with LUA? Send me a PM if you want to discuss a small project :)
