Ideas for mapping

Hey guys, I'm a newbie at mapping, I've read most of the tutorials on this forum. But, how do you guys generate your ideas for mapping? I have a hard time figuring out what looks good and what doesn't.

Look at mappers threads, see their ideas, look or inspiration from Internet to try and replicate and can't do much more than get to know the editor in and out by use.. So eventually you will get a feel for it

Practice makes perfect..
Nah but really. If you want to be a mapper you should know it takes a lot of time before your maps start to look decent.. hell I've been mapping for 3-4 years and still consider myself a noobie compared to some others.

A good starting tutorial would be:
[Advanced] Mountain Mapping tutorial By MMB

And read this aswell.. and then you decide what your purpose is
[Advanced] Mapping for RPG and not for showoff. By MmB.

And you could go more intermidate later on.
