I believe it is far to common that a person will come here to otland for no other purpose but to try to build a money machine off the labor of others, completely destroying the foundations for which the community were built.

Mark himself had a problem with what money was doing to the community and he saw all this coming...

The Jobs section is overly abused for this, and has lead to an almost complete deterioration of the purpose of such a section! That section is no longer used by passionate game devs seeking help in the areas they lack... and on the flip side, it's not used by the devs for the purpose of finding a project they like and joining either, or even a profitable project to join...

The jobs section is completely over used by people seeking to use AI and money (or even trying to con someone instead) to build a money machine... and for the other side, it's almost completely littered with people ready to scam or prey on the ones who actually wanted to throw money at it... There is almost no integrity in that section and zero safeguards to make it a "trusted" place!

Please. Restrict new accounts from accessing that area... Idk require 2 solutions or something, maybe a specific number of trophies or perhaps a threshold on the reaction score... (please don't make it number of posts, that would encourage a lot of spam in disguise).

This really needs to be done.. since it's already allowed to be using this forum for some sort of "money" agenda, and promoted via a "jobs" section, it might as well be recognized for it's purpose, and made to have some safeguards in place, some sort of reason for users to feel like it's a trusted place to seek recruitment (or work), otherwise, what's the point?

Right on target. It's been obvious for a long time. Every week there are new projects and hundreds of new accounts that supposedly invite people to these servers, but in reality it's just one person. OTLand should only be available to users who create projects, seek help, and spend many years on this forum. This, of course, applies to the jobs section of the forum.

It's disgusting seeing always the same AI-generated Server Descriptions, but if that is ever going to change I highly doubt it, it's not the forum it used to be; renovation is something that won't happen anytime soon, if anytime at all.
Nobody is going to moderate this or create new rules for it.

AI-assisted thread creation for grammatical errors and icons for visual design should not be discouraged or discriminated against.

I used AI to assist as that is what it is intended for. It doesn’t erase my knowledge of development or make the idea behind the project any less valuable.

I am here to support this community again as I did back in 2009 when I joined. Hopefully we can overcome the dissolution and spark a revolution of collaboration.

If no rules are violated, then there should be no action taken.
If some kind of content triggers you, or you simply don't like some kind of content - just ignore the user.
I, for example, frown upon excessive usage of bold. Do I want you removed or silenced? Hell no

You entirely miss the point and/or are obviously only posting either for the attention or sheer joy of trolling someone else's thread or something... the point is not at all about discrimination, the point is in making that board a trustworthy place for the people using it... if you think that can coincide with brand new users having access to it, then by all means speak up with the alternative suggestion... otherwise, if your next post is just more of this same crap where you are either attempting to tilt or shame me, then you will simply have your posts reported for violating rule number 3, and I will add you to the blocked list... prove me wrong, show me that you didn't have bad intentions, only good ones and I will be happy to discuss your alternative suggestion with you. 🙄

The scene changed, people buy, sell, and hire everywhere. Even now, with buying and selling products already banned, people just move those deals somewhere else. If you make it even harder to offer services too, Otland community will lose what little activity it has left. You can add restrictions, but it won’t stop people from doing business, it’ll just stop them from doing it here. And when that happens, many won’t bother checking the other sections at all. They’ll just leave for good.
You are doing a whole lot of assuming for everyone...

If the jobs section was a trustworthy place, then why would people leave to do shady backroom deals that they know they are going to be scammed on, and end up coming to the community to cry about it anyways? Your logic is seriously flawed... it makes zero sense that the jobs section becoming a more trustworthy place would cause people to leave otland... again, I say, if you have a better suggestion than such restrictions, how about you offer up your solution? Or are you only ever going to post when you have found something you feel like disagreeing about?

I don’t believe we should limit people's access to any resource based on any criteria here.
There are tons of old clueless users, who pose as all-knowing gods (just look at the recently banned one) - and what? You want to hermetize it for them?
Everyone has their own eyes, their own mind - let them decide for themselves.
Account age or post count doesn’t mean anything.
Solution count? People will be farming solutions then.
Every regulation has side effects, and every time someone makes a mistake, someone also learns something.

So your whole point is that we should do absolutely nothing and leave it exactly as it is, and yet, you yourself state with your closing statement that every time a mistake is made, experience is gained... or as you put it "someone also learns something"... Can you not see how you are contradicting yourself? If mistakes lead to learning, would it not be better to keep trying to improve what's obviously broken rather than do nothing?

Or are you just trying to say that the system is already perfect and there is no problems? If so, I obviously disagree as that's why I made this thread... 😮‍💨

Your solution will result in people spamming support threads to farm solutions, which is arguably worse than spamming the jobs board - not everyone below 2 solutions spams the job board currently, but I am sure everyone would want access to it, so people will start spamming the support board proactively, so they get access.

It's actually a similar problem to Server Gala board, which also sees a huge amount of low-effort posts of people trying to stand up servers for cash-grab. You don't see it because Server Gala requires moderator approval before thread is ever visible, which results in generally many complaints - but it keeps the board relatively in shape.

It's difficult to come up with criteria for posting (on any board - whether Gala or Jobs) that wouldn't be unnecessarily restrictive towards real new users and at the same time effective. Hence we've taken on the job of screening all Server Gala threads. I don't believe this would be practical to apply to Jobs. The Jobs board is already somewhat problematic - so many people trying to sell stuff they didn't even make themselves, hiding behind "Job" offers.

In the end, this is Internet. Don't trust anybody. Anything you do is at your own risk. Anybody can see the profile of a poster and decide if they are trustworthy on their own.

I don't at all understand this response... first you acknowledge there is a problem, and go on to cite this problem as being shared with the server gala, and then state that this is the reason the server gala has to have the threads approved before actually being publicly available on the forum..

At this point I'm with you, following everything you are saying, it's all logical... but then, you completely switch gears and say that it's not practical to jobs section... which makes absolutely no sense, as you were the one who grouped the two sections in the first place, and provide absolutely no reason why it's practical to apply this screening to gala but not for jobs...

AND THEN, you continue forward by restating that the section is problematic, and even go so far as to actually list a couple of example cases of problems that the section has... only to say, "meh, it's the internet, don't be stupid" (I'm of course paraphrasing) as your final statement on the matter....

So to sum it all up, you agree that the section has a problem, but give absolutely no reason to why you guys will not address the problem... unless, "it's the internet" was supposed to be that point?

I thought the reason flows from my explanation. Yes, there are problems. I don't see how any specific change would make it overall better. I can see many ways we can change it to be different, somewhat better and somewhat worse, but I'm not convinced there's way to make it totally better.

It’s worth keeping in mind that specialists in their fields, as well as creators with impeccable creativity, may come across your website

Maybe you could create some kind of poll encouraging people to submit proposed solutions. In return for the best solution, the user could be given the ability to ban ungrateful users - or something similar

Man. Anything is better than just ignoring this problem.... like it makes no sense to me to just not at all address this... especially since this is already an admitted problem...

Please, whoever you are, if you are reading this, please upvote the hell out of this topic if you can, lets try to show the management we don't want to deal with these problems to use the forum.
