I want to get back into it. So I decided to try to motivate myself by showing off some of my, well, better work.

The weapons and the book are nicely done too!

There isn't really anything wrong with the weapons, maybe a little dark on the axe but that's my preference opposed to it being bad.

I like your design choices for the weapons, the magician set and also the animations.
I would just recommend working with clusters for the areas of shadow and light, it's a nice concept you can find on some pixel art tutorials

Dude I would love to see thunderfury in an OT with an effect to chain lightning monsters, that would be so cool. Amazing work on the sprites!
