Hey guy's, as many of you know me from doing Znote layout's an such I am thinking about moving forward in the OT scene..I'm opening up Open-Tibia.org soon and was wondering what you guys thought about it? Yes there is a crappy PhpBB forum up as of now, but I have a VB Lic. I'll put up if you guys would be interested. As of now I will offer downloads/resources/tutorials/news and a bit more, also TFS has its own section there as well as OpenTibia. No I'm not no programmer nor high end Tibia experts like Tala., nor Elf. I do however know a bit of each world to help out if needed. I;m just basically doing it for the people. Everything will be free, however if you want a open-tibia.org name like no-ip.com give's you you will need to donate 2$'s. However this is just for those who want the name for there server. I don't have no private subversion's like we do here. If you feel like donating you will get the name which is said above, and bold/colored names in thread's like here. So you don't need to pay unless you would just like too. I am taking suggestion's on the forum's also, from anyone at all. Yes, I do realize Tala. has the biggest OT community, and in no way am I trying to steal his member's. I would actually like to be pal's if you would say so. I'm not looking for competition in a game like Tibia, I feel we all should get along. I will also be opening up ot-list.us. This list is directed at the US/SWE people. No offence to no one, but I think we could do for a good English speaking server list. Not saying I won't allow other server's, but I would like to keep it simple, and fun. So if you guy's/gal's want.... Lets start the flaming/complaining! lol.. Please keep it clean...:$
 
Why?! why would you try to divide the open tibia community?, and also Why would you try, knowing that I'll fail?
This doesn't help open tibia at all, instead of doing this you should do something innovative that would help ot, just saying..

Also another ot list won't work, many have tried before, but no one has had success :)

I don't see to where this is actually hurting the Opentibia world..... Opentibia is all based around TFS now.... There is no major forums like Ot***s... I think it would be a great benefit myself. I'm not dividing nothing, never even mentioned anything close to that either. I'm not a "pro" programmer as some are around here. I'v not based my knowledge in XML/LUA/C++, I however decided to have a broad knowledge of it all.
I think two site's would be great, as mine is more focused to the English/SWE people...Yes, Open-Tibia.Org has downloads, and resources, even tutorial's. I won't be publishing nothing like The Forgotten Server 0.2, mines a simple * Come in, see if you like it, download some stuff while your at it.. No cost at all! * I will do my best to check each and every file also. Each download will need to be reviewed by myself, or the staff before it would be posted to protect people. I welcome every type of download for the OT scene... Just wanna make a friendly site for everyone... And Also.. I think I can make a server list pre easy..
 
Yeah, make a new ot list with more organized, we dont need a new forum..

Like Custom servers in own sections / low rate/medium rate/high rate/comment field
rl maps
evos etc.
 
Make something like world map and screens required also link to client if client is custom.

i don't see how opening another OT forum can help in anything, I've seen plenty of forums opening and then closing because they simply weren't used(TibiaStrike for a recent example)

instead, look for things that the community lacks, one thing that I would love to have is a decent OT list with searchable stuff, you could use some ideas from RateMyServer(basically OTServList and TibiaWiki for Ragnarok Online, all in one, but for this, lets just look at the Servers stuff)

Have "tiers"
  • Low Rate(1~5x)
  • Mid Rate(6~50x)
  • High Rate(51~200x)
  • Super High Rate(201x +)

Have the possibility of having "server tags", and then you can search for servers that fit those tags
  • Real Map (CipSoft Map)
  • Normal Vocations (CipSoft Vocations with no alterations)
  • Teleports (teleport-based map)
  • Custom Vocations (Totally 100% custom vocations)
  • Rebirth (Server has Rebirth System)
  • etc..

I think that having stuff like this would be much more helpful then having another OT forum that will simply fail(not saying its because of u, just looking at previous attempts)
I mean, just look at the epic search page on RateMyServer, its perfect to find the exact server you are looking for, assuming it exists :p

Agree to the 2. part. I hate looking for servers with custom vocations(which i love the most)

I understand 100% on everything you said, and I actually think I'll just use my domain as a file host/server, and a server name its self.
I have also looked at the RateMyServer page, but would you guys want it that radical? I would plan on having the searchable tiers for the exp rate's/map's/clients/tags. I will look into doing something like this, just trying to help out the scene a little bit.
 
i think that if u really want to leave a mark, you have to be unique and big, doing another simple otservlist wont do because people already use it, and unless urs offers something better, then it's useless

doing it as big as this, if people join in, i think that this can indeed become the next otservlist

Open Tibia needs:
- cool ot list
- updated map editor (without bugs) and other tools
- more tutorials about otclient
- and portal on otland ;p
 
Hopefully some day we wil get free distros so people actually bother making new versions and so new ppl can try it out, instead of having to buy a subscription to get a decent distro.
inb4 dev need money, sure but this limits the people that can create OTs since not everyone can buy a subscription especially since u can only buy with paypal so it hurts the ot community. You have to go to br forums to get a decent distro now.

"We will get", that's the problem. Nothing is gonna change even if Otland would make the latest trunk available to everyone; the one's who want to actually do something, are doing it now. Extremely few are willing to create anything or learn, to move OT forward. The guys working on it at all and who are contributing, are guys who've been around since the early days. These guys are now retiring one by one, and no one is taking over. During their years they aimed at making it user-friendly and provided shitloads of guides for everything. What you're seeing is the outcome of it. This is what happens when you rely on others to supply something to you. Aiming at making shit easy to use went overboard and it has come to bite us all in the ass. No one has needed to actually learn shit for years; copy + paste code here and there, if it doesn't work: create a thread where you don't even know what the hell you're asking help with.

Keeping it closed up now can either be the downfall of if all (in which case I don't see what the loss is really), or a way to get people to bother finding out stuff for themselves to try to change shit. I'm leaning towards the first.

Post went a bit off topic I guess but oh well.

So if there will be new site, it must have own distro and tools. Something like Open Tibia Centre..
 
Add the same function coming soon, But dont charge 100 dollars per 24h ;)

Talaturen tried to divide the OT community and it took a long time for him to garner alot of people here but in the end he perspired :P
