Minimap like pxg

Anybody knows where to start to make a minimap like pxg?
I tried to start, did the transparency, but it's kinda confusing when you have just a small part of the minimap...
I think that's why they've put the map 'open', and when you 'discover' the area, it just become lighter...
But, how to do that? Anybody knows?

The minimap widget got an image of the real minimap (darker) as background, base background color is water color (Pendulum xD) and when explored the real minimap is drawn normally.
If you want to know more you have to get rid of the encryption

But, when people zoom in-out the minimap, the background image won't zoom too.... So, they limited the zoom, right?

encryptation in pokexgames files! all in the otclient are encrypted

I guess they are encrypted for a reason xD
