Hey,

I'm currently encountering a very annoying problem with my Freecom 1.5TB external HDD.
I am not able to see it in My Computer, Disk Management etc.., but I can still hear the fans starting and in my multi-boot at startup I can still choose to boot my USB HDD.
I can't format it since there is no partition or anything and I'm not able to make a new one either.
I tried installing ubuntu on it, which I was able to make a new partition with, but since it tells me that there is no mount sector or something like that I am unable to continue the installation progress, and the disk stays unreadable.
I tried to get my data back, but since I have 1.5TB of space, it would've taken around 3 days for a Quick Search to finish with winfix, and so I just decided to try to format it, which also didn't work.

I'm getting pretty frustrated of trying to fix this drive, but as I don't have much money I want to repair this HDD.

Any advice, websites, solutions to simular problems are all welcome and also appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
unknown666

P.S. I'm using windows XP SP3

STORY FROM OTHER WEBSITE WRITTEN BY ME FOR ADDITIONAL INFO:
Hello,

When I started my computer yesterday and wanted to listen to some music, which is stored on my external HDD, it asked me to reformat the HDD.
I didn't want to reformat the HDD so I went looking around google for a few hours and tried out all the solutions I could find.

I first saw something about disk management, so I went to disk management but rare enough I didn't happen to see my external HDD there at all .
Then I tried to use testdisk, I followed up the instructions and started to analyze my HDD, as it was found there .
However it took around 5~7 hours to get to 20%, as I have a 1.5 TB harddisk, so I stopped the scan, as I don't have the patience to wait 3/4 days to just test wether it worked or not.

So then I didn't really care about retrieving the files anymore, so I just tried to format the partition, but when I try to format it, it gives me an error saying that it's not possible to format the harddrive .

So that made me start to search around google more and after another 1/2 hour(s) of searching I found out that I could use an Ubuntu installation disk to make a new partition on the harddrive, so I went to the partition manager inside the installation of ubuntu, I was able to make a new partition, which contained all my 1,5TB of space, but I wasn't able to continue the install as it gave me an error saying that there is no mount sector (I'll edit this later as I'm not 100% sure about the given error).

And because I wasn't able to continue the install, there was no changes saved on my external HDD and am still not able to do anything with it, it doesn't even show up in My Computer.

So then I checked out if the external HDD was in the hardware tab, and it was, which somehow gave me a bit more hope.
I unistalled the driver of the external HDD and reinstalled it by just simply connecting the USB of the external HDD, but it still doesn't show up anywhere .

So now I'm pretty lost and don't know what to do.
Should I leave my computer on for 3/4 days to see what testdisk helps?

Information about my external HDD:
Capacity : 1,5TB
File-System (Before crash) : NTFS
File-System (After crash) : RAW
Manafacture : Freecom
Full name : Freecom Hard Drive XS USB device

Thanks in advance,

EDIT:
Well it seems like my external HDD has failed and I have to get it repaired, just my luck that my warranty has voided 5 days ago :s.
Now I have to call them and hope that they make an exception since it's only voided 5 days ago.
