Okay, so... I'm having a total mess to the point, I would like to start all over again (well not totally, I have to keep the map I've been working on)

Generally, for now, I need the basic files I will be working on - what means mapping + adding new items/sprites, I've managed to work it out, how to add new items, ALTHOUGH, I don't really know what I'm doing, and I would love to have solid fundaments, so, to the point:

I would like to create an oldschool rpg using OTclient (which? I dunno, perhaps you tell me, if there's any difference and ones would be better than others) tibia 8.0 like, and by 8.0 I mean just something oldschool but with hotkeys - why not 7.7 (or whenever hotkeys to items were invented, idk) ? I dunno! What's the difference? I dunno, please, tell me :-(

Basically I've took map from here - [8.0] [TFS 1.2] - Server Global Full [Real Map] (https://otland.net/threads/8-0-tfs-1-2-server-global-full-real-map.280265/) , and I've put it into some TFS 8.0 Downgrade I found on the web, to just run the local server and see if it works - it worked, but... it stopped >.> I've made some mess, now I whatever I'm trying to do, I see no mobs/npc in my RME, oh, it's just getting more and more messy... so, to the point:

I need to decide what files would be my fundament. I have the .otbm file, which I believe is fine and I want to keep it, since it's highly edited, although... when I open it on RME, I see no mobs/npcs now >.< Are they saved somewhere else? Can I somehow import them? The orginal map is from the 8.0 link I've mentioned ([8.0] [TFS 1.2] - Server Global Full [Real Map] (https://otland.net/threads/8-0-tfs-1-2-server-global-full-real-map.280265/))

Now, what about the rest? Which tfs/otclient should I use, and basically, whatever else is necesarry? Can anyone guide me, how to work on the originall 7.7 cipsoft files? From here : [7.7] RealOTS 7.7 Cipsoft files (virgin) (https://otland.net/threads/7-7-realots-7-7-cipsoft-files-virgin.244562/)

and is there any way, to use newer sprites? From 8.0 at least (because that's the .spr I've been working on soo far) ? or at least, how to open those files in RME? (I've looked through the topic and asked there, but found no answer :-( )

So, bascially what I need is : the most stable, generally the best fundament to start working on with map edditing / adding sprites, and then testing the server. Whatever is necesarry? Dunno >.> And I have to be able to swap the .otbm file with the one I've been working on, and for which I've used 8.0 .spr .dat - but still, I've heard the orginal 7.7 files are the best, and would LOVE to work on them, somehow open my .otbm file and continue editing the map.

Please, please, please, I'm struggling with it for days... I have no solution, my files and computer is just getting more and more messy >.> someone help me ! Please, when you metion something, try to provide the links to the best source of whatever you mean :P

bless you !

up, still suffering lack of wisdom, foundaments and wondering, what to start with (I'm afraid, that I will waste soo much time mapping, and something will be generally BAD with files/compatibility etc)

It's hard to say where someone should start with.

Here is some things to bear in mind:
  • Start with choosing the client version. This should narrow the scope of what you need to learn.
    • The old ones are easier because there is less going on.
    • Stick with vanilla version until you understand how the game works.
  • Then choose a server.
    • It can be an old revision, but might be bugged so be carefull. On the other hand It is good for leaning.
    • Or it can be a downgrade of a newer tfs version.
  • The client and the server will have to agree on the items.otb version used.
    • that will also be used by the map editor, normally RME.
When you have the vanilla version working, you can start to edit the lua files.
  • Add new spells.
  • Change formulas.
  • Edit the map.
  • Create some quests, tasks, things to do.
Then you can learn the "adding a new item" workflow.
  • Come up with some cool sprites.
  • import the item into your .spr and .dat and also in the .otb and items.xml.
  • This step you will also have to learn how to pack your own client.
Last part is putting the server online.
  • You probably want a website.
  • If it is only for a few friends you don't have to worry about getting DDOSed.
  • If it is for everyone you will have to learn about protecting your server against it.

The above should take a long long time and it is not a bad thing if you are having a good time.

Thank you! That's so nicelly written :-) Well... it's hard for me to decide, on what version should I work. - what would be commonly the best, the less buggy, the most oldschool etc. (7.6 ? 7.7 ? 8.0 ?) or is it really matter for now, I mean : will it be possible to, for example downgrade my 8.0 map to 7.6? Because since quite a weeks I'm working with edditing 8.0 real map and I would love to keep it and keep working on it, but I'm still not sure about the version I will run my server on - if the downgrading from 8.0 to 7.6 could be done easily, then there would be no problems, besides that - maybe there's some other way to work it out? Or if I have the 8.0 map I HAVE TO stick to the 8.0 client? oooof...

Thank you again !
