Open tibia is a stolen software?

ROFL. We still use CipSofts clients (copyrighted), their sprites (copyrighted) and even their map (copyrighted). There is no such thing as a legal Open Tibia server.

Actually.

I host an open tibia server and I do not use the cipsoft client, my players do. That is their offence not mine.

It is only illegal to

alter the client to suit your game (and offer said altered client for download)
Offer an IP changer on your website

Since the players are responsible for providing their own connection to our "reverse engineered" server emulator we are not legally bound to answer for their actions.

It is however illegal to accept "donations". In order to recieve money for an open tibia server you MUST have a business license. Which is usually quite pricey not worth it unless youre serious.

At any rate Open tibia server EMULATORS are not illegal such as TFS, OTserv. These are seperate works reverse engineered to send the right packets to the tibia client as long as the player has changed the IP.

So, custom client is illegal, IP changers are illegal. (There may also be discrepancies about Gesiors AAC (particularly the images.)

TFS, OTserv are legal.

Now, CIPsoft could narrow it down to the ones who break the above rules and cause quite a stir in the OT community. The fact is OTs are not stable, compared to real tibia, its like free advertising. (IMO)

Everything he said is true, it is all about copyright, nothing to do with genocide. We are not using any software from cipsoft to create the server emulators in any way, we are merely reproducing packets that the client can interpret, the client is protected by copyright laws and thus it is illegal to make any changes to it, and since they have specifically stated that you cannot alter the client in any way on their website it is illegal to use the client to join an OT server.

You could however use the yatc client with a complete custom sprite set, and play legally (and any other dependencies such as the .dat files).

It's funny when people do this. It's called "Hasty Generalization" a common logical fallacy. (fallacy means "screw-up" meaning your logic is screwed up).

Forgive me for not citing it before, I didn't think anyone would get upset because I was not attacking anyone I was only providing information. Useful, worthy information that translates into good news for us all, even the jerk who's flaming me now.

Coincidentally:

Adolf Hitler was convicted of war crimes not murder. War crimes are when you as a leader have the authority (In your fu#%ed up country) to order certain atrocities, and you do. Such as the genocide Hitler (Yes, Hitler, not the luftwaffe) perpetrated against the Jews.

I hope you and everyone else can see the error of your logic. The two things have no bearing on each other, and coincidentally I am 100% right about the legality of Open Tibia servers. (Not without research, of course. I have cited my reference, enjoy your reading.)

I researched all of this before I began immersing myself in Open Tibia. As you yourself very well should have done.

This is basically just like the problem with Limewire. It was illegal to download music, yet people still downloaded it. Yeah, we were doing something wrong when downloading the illegal music, but the owners are still to blame as well, because if there wasn't a Limewire, or music distributors, there wouldn't be a way to download illegal music. It's the same thing with OT owners. It's illegal to use cips client to log-in to ots, but yet you're hosting an ot for people to log-in. So while other people are breaking the rules when logging into servers with cips client, you're giving them a reason to break the rules by hosting the server.

Uploading is illegal, if you disable your uploading or 'seeding' you are doing nothing wrong in getting the music. It is your choice to continue to distribute the music by seeding.

You're still distributing copyrighted material, so that's a big if. So you're still uploading music for people to download, so it's still illegal.
 
Distributing and receiving are two different things, if you use it for personal use it is legal. At least in Canada it is.

Distributing copyrighted material w/o permission is illegal, downloading copyrighted (pirated) material is illegal. They are different, but still both illegal. So does it really matter if they're different?

if you get caught downloading copyright material you will be fined for copyright infringement and then sued for compensation which can amount to hundreds of thousands of pounds or dollars.
