Lua os.date check the day

hello folks, I'm trying check if the current day is the day in the config...
using it to test

local spawnDay = 16
local currentDay = os.date("%d")
if spawnDay == currentDay then
     player:say('day 16 working.', TALKTYPE_MONSTER_SAY)
end

but don't work, don't appear the message

if spawnDay == tonumber(currentDay) then
