Otland a bunch of wannabe proffessionals..

I've not been to Otland for a while now but most of the threads I read regarding requests of help no matter subject, somehow you find hundreds of morons pretending they know evertything but doesn't help instead they waste forum space by flaming the thread owner and post irrelavant things.

What happened to the community that could give a simple explaination to a thread owner despite the fact that many of these are actually useless threads yet not answered.

The purpose of this thread: Fuck the new community, some ignorant kids believing they older then what they are.

What happened to people who don't host otservs for cash?
What happened to the servers that wern't download and run?

I used to be that kind of person back in 2005 on OTFans, but now I've learned to do things on my own.

Someone had a topic in the feedback board earlier complaining about spoonfeeding, I agreed with him and started helping people get somewhere, but not directly giving the answer.
Sometimes you have to learn to do things on your own. I help people a lot and I love helping people, but I'm just tired of answering stupid questions or helping them with very easy stuff.

Back in 2005 I didn't know shit either and I was asking for GUIDANCE. <-- Big word there these newfags need to know.
Instead, they all wanna sit there while we do all the work and they get all the reward.

I usually say that when the request is quite obvious to find, such as "real map server".

Some of us live by the phrase, "Give a man a fish and you will feed him for the day, teach a man how to fish and you will feed him for a lifetime.", I like to help as well, but when people see that you are good, they begin to beg for it and that not the way to get things, here is another good saying, "Don't beg for it, earn it and it shall be granted." Everyone should live with that in mind.

I noticed that some people are just lazy instead of that they really have a problem. I once helped someone with a problem, after that he kept asking me really simple questions so I said: just try to find things yourself, alot basic things are in config.lua.. and he said: I do, but I am already spending 30 min trying to finish my server and I just want to have it fast online to get money. So ye, there are people who really are like that. But there are also people who really do their best and have serious problems. Yet I sometimes see also those threads getting ignored or trolled, so I understand a bit what Johnap is saying.
A good example is this thread: http://otland.net/f16/tibia-error-code-1-a-162704/. This guy got flamed, trolled, when his problem was actually pretty hard to solve (and so far as I know still isn't solved).

I like to troll myself and sometimes flame but I kinda do it the way that its also helping that person.
OtLand's average is ruled by 13-15 year old kids. So yeah, I agree.

As limnos said, there are lots of useless threads where you can find answers quick but still it shouldn't be trolled by stupid people who believe they know everything.. But I'm mostly against threads that have a purpose but yet gets flamed.

Thats what we moderators are for, to get rid of useless posts, threads and so forth. You should use the report button next time you see a post that you consider offtopic or something else that breaks a rule, a moderator will look into it and see fit.

I still consider myself an amateur when it comes to OT's, but most of the things I can do (such as editing scripts, not creating, to do what I want them to, fixing most basic problems etc) I can only do because of searching for solutions and trial and error. On my first OT I was literally working on POI for about 5 hours before I managed to fix things but most people these days just want an easy solution i.e getting someone else to do it for them.

It's no wonder the OT community grows anywhere with big trolls in charge of everything, erry1 making fun of things that isn't made by tala or some "known" ot developer. The 9.6 distro is probably coming in a few months, even though it's a or a few hour(s) of coding. Noone wants to help them out either since they know how shitty the staff is.

What do you mean greentext?
I've done it once or twice, but I do use it for quoting (reddit fashion), rather than making a whole

block.

Also, I won't help a total fucking idiot who in no way has even tried to use the search function, it's not the most efficient way of making them use the search function, no. But they should be aware of it being there instead of having 20 threads where the OP is essentially looking for the same thing.
What some people don't seem to understand is that they search for the thread title that they use, which for obvious reasons won't work in most cases, OtLand should have some sort of tutorial whereas the users as soon as their account is created are forced to learn about how search works.

I know what you mean. It really does get irritating. But getting paid for giving someone that's using an open-source support isn't really the purpose of open-source. I will not bother wasting my time helping someone that obviously is incompetent of running a server.
