Greetings Otland!

Ok so I got my new phone for the holidays. I loved it, loved everything about it, wanted to start scripting on it (got a good text editor) however, I am still stuck with all these lame forum readers or browsers for cell phones. To me, that is just not as great as it could be, and as great as it should be. Here at Otland there is so much talent! There ARE still great programmers out there who thrive off the challenge, and live to learn, people who still love creating a great piece of work and wanting the world to see all the hard work they put into it.

Today I come with just that! An offer for a Challenge! A chance to learn! A chance to show all the people here at Otland your great ART!!! That's right, I said it! I believe a programmer to be an Artist, because there are hundreds of ways to solve a problem and different programmers have different styles. You can recognize a persons work from one script to the next if you have followed their work, same with any other kind of Artist.

So Programmers and developers here at Otland! I challenge you to create an App strictly for Otland! That's right, your own Otland App! How nice would that be?

This is ofcourse a discussion. So how many people may be interested in such an idea? I know nothing about coding for apps, but I am willing to learn. Maybe we could end up creating a team for this right here on this thread!

I am absolutely supporting this idea.
Thought of it few times already, I'd like to see it some day!

What would the application do? I feel like the only use for a mobile app would be a server list viewer or something.

I wasn't thinking for a server list. I meant an app for just viewing otland, making use of rss support, or any ideas came up with from this thread. That is an awesome idea for server list, could have it as an option for otservlist

Yea that would be cool most of the time im watching otland on my phone and even this post is made on my phone so i would find it awsome

nice idea guys , but about the otland program it just to make a view of site ?
or there is something behind , in my opinion if i make a program for otland i would add notification , it means if a thread i watch or i posted got effected i will get tone buzzer , else if any new thread has been posted or replied i will get another tone buzzer
I'll be happy to start on something like that , but fuck the exams :@ no damn time

Ofcourse that would be ownage! I actually like the idea of mapping on a tablet too (although that has nothing to do with this idea). But yes, notifications! Site viewing, nice navigation panel, some quick links maybe that you could customize or maybe not. But yes the main purpose would be so all of us Otland addicts, can keep our buzz going while out and about with our phones! :D

I seem to be having brain malfunctions and failures right now, for like the past week. I was kind of hoping other people would come in with some more great ideas, maybe at the start of the new year I will have some more details or ideas for this project.

the problem is time xD , and many of us have exams these days , ofc. you know that most of programmers here still in clg or school , and u came with this idea now :D , my exams will start next monday ..

about mapping on touch-screen tablet it's need a little work since rme is already there just add andriod things and make your little changes , then rme is mobile app

to be honest i never understand the idea that people makes app which is similiar to the mobile website version..
They only take memory, cpu, battery and it will cost mb credit (prepaid or limited phone subscriptions)...

Let alone if they put annoying ad´s, or annoying notifications..

You made some very valid points, however as for mobile version, there isn't an option for otland when you come here, nor does it go to a mobile version by default, I didn't even try and see if I could just put the m. in front of it. But I haven't seen a mobile version, and the app is only better in the way that it would/should be open-source, so everyone learns, plus way more control. If it were an app, and people requested features, some of those features would be worth it. How about the option to make your own theme? You could do that with the app, sure if you know enough about code and have a well developed method for alteration of the style the site is viewed in, then yeah good for you, but for those of us who want to teach and learn, this is what this is about. Why was OT made? To give the control to the individual with the program, essentially this would be same basic idea/concept.

>>>Take ideas from users!<<<
>>> Start an Open-Source project <<<
>>>Learn from development<<<
>>>Create interface for end-user<<<
>>>Teach end-user how to use interface<<<

This community is full of people who come and go, but what stays? The code, the work put in today, will be the work that teaches the programmers who advance it tomorrow!
