[PHP] dubts and making a ranking

hello, i'm trying to make my own ranking that shows 11 - 12 columns that are on my DB but i dont know how to show just 20 lines and later make page2, page 3... I dont know also how use well the function while for display all. someone can help me? :$

simplest way is just making a few variables like $x = 0;
if($x == 20)
put shit on another page


$x++;
