Linux phpmyadmin problem

When I try to log into phpmyadmin on my vps it gives me this error

Connection for controluser as defined in your configuration failed.

Anyone know what I can do? I looked it up on Google but I can't find anything that works, so I'm hoping someone else here has got this error and knows how I can fix it.
