If one player have promotion level 2 for back to level one 0 or 1?

I think he wants to be able to demote players with some kind of npc or other lua script.

I think this didn't work for one of my friends either..
It looked something like this:

setPlayerPromotionLevel(cid, getPlayerPromotionLevel(cid) - 1)
