C++ question about compile

I'm learining compilling...

Yesterday, my first time what i compiled sources of my server... Well, if i need "modific" some items in my sources files, or add more sources files in my server, i need do all steps of compilation? or i can "load" my last compilation and add "new files sources" and build? can anyone explain for me?

I think you can just rebuild the compilling you did with the new Files!

But, what file i open? To rebuild in my projects?
Example: projectname.(?) <---
