I've been thinking recently and talking to some people and none can really understand how Medivia can be a legal company?

Have Iryont been in contact with Tibia in order to be a legal company?
Do he pay a percentage of whatever earning he do to them?

I just don't get it, does anyone have any information on this?

I'd love to know :)

Peace

Who says it's a "legal company"?
Many small (and large) companies operate outside of the law until they are challenged. Pretty much standard practice world-wide.
Companies operate outside of individual liability (so the financial risks are, in most cases, limited only to the company and not any individual)

i dont think is legal, but he can open a otserver like others. (You can change the tibia name, made you own client, and do another things but the game is the same)

In fact, we are a legal company with a single goal to follow our dream of creating the perfect gaming experience. Moreover, we have devoted the last years to update the existing content of a 7.4 world with new, eye-catching map parts, breath-taking quest-lines and outstanding RPG elements. It's not a company and i don't understand what you are trying to do with this thread. Iryont and his team can talk and do whatever they want like most other people who open otserver. If Yrion wants to call his otserver a company, he's good for him. But in my opinion it is only a development group

Let me explain you. Iryont has registered IT company and he is paying taxes in Poland - that's why they call it legal company.

If we talk about CipSoft, I think that they cannot do anything now. The only thing are sprites which Iryont is changing step by step anyway.

well I want to know if he actually spoke to CIP, I mean if he did and they "allowed" him? Then pretty much everyone could register as a legal company, if that is the case.

Well I think they can do something if they want to

Exactly as @OldSchoolPlayer said - it is a legal company because he (I'm assuming) correctly registered it and correctly pays the company tax etc.
Legal company ≠ legal activities.

That's not to say he didn't seek and/or receive permission though - but I would be very surprised.

indeed make a legal company isn0t really hard you have to pay taxes in yur country sign some papers and done, like copyrights

Legal company means it's a registered company and it doesn't mean you can't do illegal things. For example there was a smaller game developer that was copying assets (like gun models) from Call of Duty or something.

Another example is that Cipsoft stole assets from Ultima Online before they got big. I think this was before they started selling premium accounts though, so that would probably make it a different thing.

Wouldn't registered company make more sense to say then? I know I am not the only one that thought he meant he weren't doing anything illegal anymore.
Been discussing with different people on Skype and noone really understood how it could be so thats why I made the thread.

However I do appreciate the answers and I am thankful for your explanations

For me its obviously not 100% legal as there is cipsoft sprites and the game is almost a total ripoff of 7.4 cipsoft tibia.

Hence I made this thread, I too believed it was still illegal but I thought his statement meant that he no longer were illegal.

To sum up:
Owner of Medivia is saying that it is legal because it is registered in his country and he is paying taxes.
Paying taxes on profit = no breaking a law = it is a legal business.
Also "legal company" sounds better than "I'm paying taxes." or "I founded a company.".

But is this fully legal? Medivia is using own client (no Tibia), but there are some sprites from Tibia, also very big similarity to Tibia gameplay, Tibia world (like some areas of map same as in Tibia) and probably the same structure of packets.
I hardly doubt that last things like map, gameplay and structure of packet can be problem.
I think that CipSoft can complain only on sprites = stolen assets, but as it was stated before owner of Medivia is changing all sprites to new.

Can CipSoft close Medivia?
First of all they probably don't care. If they don't care there is no problem.
What if they start to care? Then probably Medivia will be forced to close or... they will just change all assets faster.
Also maybe some financial penalties, but I think that CipSoft won't be able to close Medivia.

TFS uses the same network architecture as Cipsoft does, ping heartbit, map packets, tile packets and so on, it's been reverse engineered, any Audit on that is enough to close any OpenTibia Server.

My post has been edited by someone that just doesn't respect freedom of speech / expression, sort of time for people here to open their eyes and jump off, censuring stuff was never a part of "open-tibia". :)
