Really new to linux, need help quickly.

Okay, I'm like the biggest noob when it comes to Linux. I recently have made an OT, but it was in the linux format and I don't feel like converting to windows so I bought a linux dedicated/vps server. Now I'm absolutely clueless on how it works. With a little bit of help from someone I've managed to do the following:

  • Get the server on the vps (finally -.-)
  • Install mysql/apache
  • Put a password on phpmyadmin
  • Import the database


Now, basically I need help to get the server STARTED. I don't know how it starts, simple as that. How do I start it? I don't even think it's an .exe.. its just like a file, well that's what windows reconizes it as. I'm guessing that's normal for Linux?

If anyone could tell me the command for putty to start the server, that would be much appreciated; the directory is:

root/.otserv (folder)/server (.exe? starting thing.. also runserver)

And, if anyone knows how to make an account page that would be good as well, but If someone can use putty on it and figure it out for me, then that would be awesome.

lol... well, he probably uses debian... and ubuntu desktop lol? by using server its like being in the terminal 24/7, no need for some graphic bullshit..

and well, gentoo sounds a bit advanced for athenz :p
