If you just starting I'd try shading first to understand how to apply them on your future sprites.
Spheres are the best to start with.
Just please don't use brush for anything- sprites look horrible and there's a lot of them on otland already

Brushes are very useful to be honest, you just need to know how to use them properly.

I am working on a shield to be able to show the improvements and that I have taken into account your advice, I thank you sincerely I want to learn to be a great spriter but I am in 1% of all the potential that I have. @Leshrot @marek12
