Some lose no exp, others lose massive exp?

On my server some players are losing MASSIVE amounts of exp like 4-6 levels at a time, while others are losing no exp at all. How could I fix this? I try running: UPDATE players SET loss_experience = 10; and shit like that it doesnt work.. Sometimes people lose 1-2 levels, other times they lose 5-6 levels. Help please
