System Player Protection if Internet goes down.

I currently have a server, and I see a lot of requests from players that have a shaky internet and suffer from frequent crashes.
The system would work as follows, whenever a player had his connection lost he would no longer be attacked by monsters, ie he would not suffer + damage from monsters who would ignore him until his connection was reestablished.

That can be easily abused by players who kill their own client (force-exit) in order to be frozen in game until they are logged out or otherwise game state changes. That's why it's not such a great idea.

Yes I really believe it can be swindled by players, but do you think it could be done? If so, could you let me know how you would do it?
