The Ancients
Prologue
Some people don’t believe me when I say that the impossible can happen. These people are ignorant, and so very wrong. I’m here to tell you my story of what can be accomplished. My name is Crimson. I have many names but this is just the most reasonable to call me. I am the first and the last of my kind and my existence is supposed to be impossible. Prologue
For the past eons I have been travelling my multiverses, the most magnificent place you can imagine. I watched stars implode, a black hole devour everything in its wake, and of course the greatest of all, I watched a small planet commonly called Earth develop. Such impracticalities have formed in this single planet; so much is going to happen on this planet and a lot of potential for the human species.
My companion, Dardanos, has been travelling with me since I created this marvelous multiverse. Dardanos has a twist with him, he just isn’t my companion he is also the most advanced computer in my multiverse. He can warp through time, transport to specific universes, and so much more, but he has an eternal hunger. Dardanos tends to absorb any type of energy being put onto him. The Earth tends to do this to its inhabitants. The longer Dard is here the more I figure he will devour this world.
To most I’m called the multiverse watcher known as the Aksu Ilu, or the Dangerous God. I have yet to discover why they call me this. I suppose it might be because I tend to drop off at worlds and lure an inhabitant to Dardanos to see if I can recreate someone with my power. So far these attempts have been failures. Every single one.
This world will also be demolished by the human race if they continue to walk the path they are on. I’ve been trying to recreate someone with my power to make this planet go onto the right path, but once someone has tasted power they might crave more. This will ultimately destroy everything that lives and abolish the multiverse. It is time for me to stop thinking about getting the perfect person and start trying to find him. There is also something not even Dardanos knows, the ancients are coming.
Chapter One – The Polite Boy
As soon as I stepped out of Dardanos the damn machine would not fall silent saying he was still hungry. I yelled back at Dard, “You just ate! How are you still hungry? I haven’t even traveled very far, only a few years.”Dard grumbled back at me, “I’m always hungry, but at the moment I’m feeling nippish.” I sighed, “Once I find the person we will go find something to eat. This time I will feed you a black hole, deal?” “You’d better, do something more than that Crimson!” barked back Dardanos.
I walked away, thinking how to solve his eternal hunger, hmm so many things to ponder about.
First and foremost on my list is to find that one person who I can fill in my spot. Gah, still not wanting to find a replacement but I’ve seen everything and Dardanos continues to get worse with me, perhaps I should reprogram him. That would bring more problems though…
For the first time stepping off of Dardanos I realized where I was, San Francisco, California. The Golden Gate Bridge sat in the horizon mocking the fog. Of course the person might be here I thought mockingly.
Well, I thought, this should be easier than the period at the third eon. I immediately got shivers after thinking about that blasted period, which is an eon I’ll never return to. I started to walk until I noticed something ‘off’ in this city.
Perhaps this is the time period where I finally find that perfect person. One could hope couldn’t they? I guess it’s time to start finding that person. Will I just know it’s the person? Could I sense the person?
I stopped walking and saw a restaurant. That looks good! I went up to the glass sliding doors and something came over my mind, what am I going to pay with? I left my changeable paper with Dard. I’m sure the serving girl won’t mind me eating some cheesy fries and a soda for a small exchange.
I walked in and sat down at the nearest table. A serving boy walked up to my table, approximately in his early twenties, he had dark brown hair, bright green eyes, with a tad of grey in them, and a fair face. His nametag said Thais.
Well that’s just great, I thought, now I’m going to make a deal with this boy. He smiled and asked, “Here is a menu, and would you like anything to drink, sir?” Good he at least had some respect. I said back to him, “I have no need for a menu, I already know what I’m going to choose, young man, a Dr. Pepper and some cheesy fries would be excellent,” he replied, “Sure thing, let me know if you require anything else,”
This boy would make an exceptional apprentice I thought. A couple minutes he returned with my short meal and asked, “Would you like anything else?” I pondered for a second whether I should make this boy a deal or not. I gave him a serious face and asked the boy, “Would you like to know more about your world?” He looked shocked; of course he would need to think about this first.
He sat across from me and said, “What do you mean by know more about my world?” I smirked for a second or two and replied, “Well you live here, and you were born here correct?” He looked puzzled by this even more so. “Yes, I was born here and I do live here. Where else would I live?”
Hmm, this boy now seemed to be sarcastic. Good, a sense of humor too. I replied my first question to him and he thought for a minute. “Yes, I would like to learn more about my world; if given the chance.” He finally said. I leaned closer and said to him, “Come closer to me young man, I need to show you something. Look into my eyes and seek what you want to know,”
The young man leaned closer and gazed into my eyes. “If anyone has taught you anything you would know that the eyes are windows to the souls. Now seek the information you want to know about your planet.”
Chapter Two – Religion
As soon as the boy looked into my eyes I started to feel his emotions and eagerness for the information about his dear planet. He soon figured out how to look for the information in my eyes. He started to sift through my memories about Earth. The first thing I brought up for him to see was the Earth forming from mere dust, which in turn started to make rocks, and from that began to create the Earth itself. The rocks formed to the Earth so suddenly that it super-heated the rocks and created molten rock.
I skipped half a million years for him, I could tell he felt the shock out of the abruptness. He started to settle once I slowed it down a little for him to actually see what was happening. Again he was dazed to see what he did.
Crimson quickly realized that this boy was very religious, and was expecting some Adam and Eve story or some off brand about that. I could be traumatizing this boy. An uncertainty came into my mind as I became conscious that this boy might not be the one I was hoping for.
I pushed on through my memories. I started to wonder if I should show him the rest of the scene. As the atmosphere started to formulate as did the water. Once the water started to liquefy some sort of bacteria started to clump together forming something new, new to this new world.
These new bacteria’s started to form creatures commonly known as fish to humans. These fish started to evolve. They grew legs and started to walk onto land. The boy still staring into my eyes had something different in his appearance… Perhaps it was revolt that was forming in his facial expression? You could never know with these mysterious beings.
It was best this boy didn’t finish the experience of what was going to happen. So I asked, “Would you like me to stop?” The boy blinked and slowly said, “It would be best to, yes.” I sighed and said, “Alright then, I shall be on my way. Thanks for attempting it, not everyone can sift through my memories.”
He looked at me strangely and said, “Really? I’m not the first?” “No you aren’t, nor will you be the last. Farewell I shall be on my way then.” I replied.
As I strolled out and was about to leave he asked one last question, “How do you have this knowledge and how can you show me it?” I laughed and said, “That would spoil all of the fun.”
Huh, there really is something wrong with this city, too many people still believing in a religion, they need to get out of that part of the past.
Once I walked up to Dard and walked in he demanded, “Did you find that imprudent person yet? I’m still hungry, and from the smell of it you’ve eaten.” I grumbled, “No and yes. Yes I did. It was delicious.” Dardanos rumbled, “God damn it Crimson!” I exhaled and said, “Well, I guess we should find you something. How hungry are you?”
“Very, because of me thinking about whom you could choose and if you would find someone to choose,” Dardanos mumbled. I looked into nothing and finally said, “So be it, I will find you a black hole about to implode.” “Mhmm sound’s delectable!” he said delightedly. I started to enter the coordinates in the console. First I entered the x-axis coordinate: 9842.12561 then the y-axis coordinate: 4217.15338 and finally the z-axis coordinate: 1439.14736.
I have spent too much of my life speeding through the multiverses, memorizing the location of every black hole that would exist or soon to implode. I really must find something to do more often. Then I said to Dard, “Scan this area until the atoms are so densely compact and then go and devour this. Hurry up now.”
Quickly Dardanos started to vibrate meaning he was transporting himself to the location then he hummed as he started to work. Over the years the hum calms me down and makes me think easier. I probably shattered his knowledge about the universe. Not much I can do about it now.
Suddenly, the humming stopped. I looked up and asked Dard, “What’s going on Dard? It seems a bit too early for you to stop.” He replied, “Well, I finished my meal, but there’s something else. There’s something more ancient here than just an ordinary black hole.”
Chapter Three – Enlil
“What how ancient?” I said with a hint of shock in my voice. Huh, there’s something that hasn’t happened in a long time.Dardanos started to go back into the void, I shouted, “Stop! Go back! I need to find out what you’re scared of!” He mumbled, “I’m not going back to my death Crim,”
“Well, this is good as time as any; Dard, you can’t truly die. You can be rebuilt; your AI, your programming, and your shell of a body, all are replaceable.” It took him a minute but he complied then the door started to open.
I peered back into the console whispering, “Whatever is scaring you senseless I’ll destroy or make peace with it, just stop being a pansy.” Dard muttered, “This is something beyond you, Crimson. I know this, I just demolished their power source they will be pissed.”
A smile started to appear at my face and I half laughed, “The big bad destroyer of worlds scared of something older than him. Hilarious.”
Finally turning towards the door I looked around inside Dardanos, first to the console on my left with the various switches, buttons, and screens with violet hues, then to the endless halls to my right. I sighed then walked out. I in took a breath of surprise and stepped out.
I was expecting galaxies clumping together, but instead there was something very ancient blocking the view of them, and not from this multiverse. It could possibly be from another dimension considering the technology, those other beings always trying to beat my multiverse.
It looked strangely beautiful with the distant galaxies forming in the background, the hues the colors in general made me feel attracted to this out of place ship. Slowly but surely I flew to the strange material I’ve never seen before.
This is extraordinarily strange, I made all of the elements in this multiverse, so one question popped into my mind, where the hell did this come from and why did they come to my multiverse…
The material formed wicked edges, all strategically placed to be aerodynamic, impossible circles having to do with some sort of shield, and finally a four dimensional cube for the bridge of the ship. Great, something this universe didn’t quite need yet, if they got this ship now their understanding of their universe would crumble.
Once I got close enough to the ship there was something to be expected: a force field, ugh, how I hate these. But, there is always a weak spot in these damn things, now only if I could find it.
I started to feel around the force field leaving a trail of red matter where I touched. That could be harmful I thought. I haven’t seen red matter since I was first forming so long ago.
Ha, here it is! I reached for my Quantorix Knife safely placed out of view. As I grabbed the knife free from its scabbard the dark blue blade glimmering and the neatly decorated handle pulsing with power, ever craving more. This knife could theoretically cut any substance I’ve created but what about alien technology?
Too many questions have been popping up in my head for the last few days; it’s time to start doing and not questioning what I’m doing. As I started to put the knife towards the force field it started to engulf the power being pulled from the force field the dim blue glimmering started to shine, this was unusual. The Quantorix Knife never changed brightness, this must be very powerful technology, possibly even on par with Dard.
I must learn who and what is on this ship. After I put the knife back into its scabbard the force field was weakened enough so I could pass. I started to fly towards the mysterious ship. As I got closer to the ship I read Enlil that was engraved beautifully on the side.
Chapter Four – Without Pain
Enlil, that’s incredibly old, perhaps older than me. Now I was curious, maybe anxious to find out who this was, considering I don’t remember much of my youth if you could call it that. But early in my life I can clearly remember seeing into another multiverse for a few seconds. Those beautiful multiverses, eventually I will visit theirs. There was a violet-type hue that was being absorbed by Enlil, the same color of Dard’s interior glow. My eye’s opened wide as I realized that this ship was absorbing Dardanos’ power. This left me hysteria-like.
I started to fly back towards Dard become conscious that I wasn’t going fast enough to reach him in time. There was something that I could do that could go substantially faster but that would mean it would change my appearance, and I was getting to like this look. Ironically looking like a human, but I urgently need to get back to him.
I started to concentrate willing my molecules to spread apart and compelling them to go to Dardanos. As soon as my molecules were far enough apart I started to lose my sight. A few moments later I sensed that I was near him, again, willing my molecules to reform and create my form once again. As soon as I got my bearings I floated the rest of the way to Dard, hoping that he realized his energy was being stolen. And that he might be able to stop it.
As I got close enough to see Dard’s door I saw it was open. That’s strange, very strange, if he’s ever in his door form the lock is impossibly hard to open. Then that means Dard opened his doors willingly. And Dardanos can barely stand me, but what about someone who went inside him… The thought was disturbing. Dard I said to myself, you’d better not trying to kill this being before I get to talk to it. Or at least try to keep them conscious until I had my time with this being.
I got close enough to grasp his door and as I reached for the door there was that off feeling once again. I stepped through the door, seeing why it seemed off to me. The violet hue was dimmer than it should be, that’s peculiar. I was starting to get worried about what is happening to Dardanos.
I looked to my right then the left seeing that no one was on I ran to his console. I almost yelled, “What else is in here? Who are the ancient beings Dard?” His voice was barely a whisper, “As I told you Crimson, this was beyond even you.” “What!” I yelled at him.
Dardanos started to vibrate. “Quickly! Run to the door and rebuild me! This time don’t program me with pain,” Dardanos whispered. I grabbed the memory chip from his console and grabbed the changeable paper then ran out. Dardanos’s body started to disintegrate; leaving nothing behind besides red matter, as quickly as it had started it disappeared.
I looked around realizing he brought me back to San Francisco. I thought whatever you are, whoever you are I’m going to find you and destroy your multiverse if it is the last thing I’m going to be do, for killing my longtime friend.
The story will, of course, continue but at my own leisure. Also, feedback is nice to have.
