Tibia 2.5D

Hey, made a quick little animation to show what Tibia 2.5D might look like.

I like the way ultima mixed the 2d and 3d better, where its the creatures that are the 3d models and the rest remains 2d... but this is kind of interesting to say the least... I would probably easily and happily play a nice rpg that looked like this, if it seemed to have some nice content and playstyle for the pve and pvp.

Sure. Having 3d models for mobs and stuff would be pretty cool. My thinking was twofold. One, many walls could use the same model and many floors could as well, but more importantly, nothing would need to be animated, which means the process of converting stuff is way faster. Two, I have kind of liked the HD-2D aesthetic since I first saw it in Octoparh Traveller.

And how did you approach to conver the sprites?
The sprite is a plane that automatically faces the camera, rotated 45 degrees. which frame is set so that it looks as close to facing south as possible given the frames available and the camera angle.

I actually should have called it HD-2D because it is closer in style to the HD-2D games in the last few years. I called it 2.5D because I grew up in the era of original Doom games, and that's what they called those engines at the time.

If you have some free time to chat, please contact me on discord cblade00, i would be happy to know you as well ^^

Well it is already 2.5D in Tibia but I guess they prefer a higher angle versus a lower angle so ppl see more. With the angle you choose you will have to make all walls transparent as soon as your character gets closer.
