Getting to Ferumbras is not the issue. Killing Ferumbras is the issue.

If you play the game far enough to get a hero and retry you'll be able to use them from the beginning.

Does it make the animations ect. go faster in the game? If it does, what a great idea!

I tried it another time after posting my screenshot and won. Heroes + GMs = win - Even though I did my beginning slightly different.
