Hello all!

I've been playing tibia 13 on a self-hosted server a friend set up on his spare pc using xampp.

The experience was very sluggish with constant disconnects and other problems regarding character saving and rollbacks.

I heard that a dockerized server would be the best way to deploy but I'm fairly new setting up servers of any kind and would like to know if a more up to date guide exists.

I was looking around devilbox and a way to get the server going in it but it was quite obtuse for myself without any guidance.

Thanks in advance for any help whatsoever.

When I tried building the compiled code following Compiling on Windows (vcpkg) (https://github.com/otland/forgottenserver/wiki/Compiling-on-Windows-%28vcpkg%29) instructions here.

Any guesses how I can get around these errors?

okay, here's my advice for you:

1. Go to Google Cloud. Sing up for 3 months free trial. You need to provide your credit/debit card data but unless you agree for paid account nothing will be taken from your bank account.

2. you're particulary interested in 'compute engine'.

3. I'm sincerelly sorry but i won't guide you through the configuration in detail. it's really easy and google should guide you pretty well. If, however, you experience any issues just google up some tutorial how to proceed with free VPS from google.
4. You should end up having 4v core cpu & 16( or more?) GBs ram. You can pick, for example, 50 GBs of disc space so that you have some back up space. If I were you, I'd go for Ubuntu 22.04.

5. Go to the link below and follow the guide.
(this tutorial is not newest but should be working just fine)

6. Go to the link below and find distro/website app that you like
Or use the one that you already have. The compilation guides for linux are there on the github if needed.

7. IF you don't know no-ip, i'd get familiar with it.

8. you got your 24/7 free vps running for 3 months to play with your friends.

9. after 3 months if you still want to play with your friends you got two options. Pay for any VPS (you don't need anything good for a few friends) or download the server/database etc. and ask your friend to repeat the process and run the server instead of you, you got another 3 months. and so on.

This is really best solution for playing with friends.
