So.. We at OTLand got a real nice tutorial section with a lot of information (yes some are old and need to be updated)

The problem is, i used to do a lot of tutorials "back in the day" when people actually read them... Nowadays no one even knows that they exist.

If users run into problems they ask in the support board
If user don't know how to set up a server they pay for it or beg in the support board
If users needs a LUA/XML/C++ script they beg in the support board..

/\
Yeh you can see the problem.
We got some guys on the forum here who got huge knowledge. So instead of answer the same question 400 times in the support board, we should get new players to actually read the tutorial section. And with that tutorial makers will get more feedback on the work they do and that way i think a lot more will start writing.

How can we change so that new and old user with "low" OT knowledge will read a tutorial instead of spamming the tutorial section with stuff like:
How do i Open ports?
Why do i get this error?
Please compile this for me
How do i start an AAC website

And loads more

When i started OTFans in 2005 everyone read tutorials when they started.
And we can't blame the age here, i was 12-13 when i started making my own servers.

Anyone have any ideas or something?

Then they just starts PMing.

I've had 25 PMs the last 3 days from the same guys with questions like

How do i change color on this text.
Why do i get this error
how can i change so i need level 20 instead of 15.
etc etc

i blocked the guy after the question how do i change color of a text.. i said google.

Make a sticky note with a link to the tut section? Or like a bar/popup that notify ppl that there are solutions allready?

blocking people? really? Probably they dont even know about the tut. section and totally need our help. and if our help is showing tham the tut. section its enought. dont fking block tham away..

i did it after the 10th msg about something that exists on google... "dont ask stupid question cuz they are all on google"

or block and block but i didnt send anything back since i got bigger problems then helping ppl with changing color of some news text...

I post tutorial links all the time.

but people always jump in and give them the exact answer so they never have to learn anything.

The thing OTLand should work on tho is to actually get people to use the tutorial section. Maybe it's to far down? i dunno

put it above the support board and give it blinking lights sayn UH CLICK DIS IF U NEED HAPL

I thought I'd explain further,

create a thread with frequently asked questions with links to the solution(s) in the same thread or just links to similar situations.

I'm not involved much in the support board so I can't do it myself, a Support Staff member could however.

Better that they learn how to use tutorial section... Will help them even when they know a lot :p even I use it now and then

I know this isn't built into vBulletin, but maybe if they're a new member (Join date - 3 months) or so and they post in Support, take keywords and prompt them to a page that says, "Try viewing a tutorial first". And a list of relevant tutorials. And don't let them post until they've at least viewed the thread. Or making this optional. Just another way they can view the most complete tutorials in an easier way. Because if they aren't seeking out the tutorial boards, perhaps they aren't reading stickies either. They see "support" and think "oh, someone will do it for me."

OR http://otland.net/f15/similar-thread-names-156078/ this way it automatically earches for them when they make a thread.

Yh it could have something like "suggested categories" by judging certain words in the name
