In TFS armor decreases dmg (100 arm is about 100 dmg blocked), and defense increase chance to block.
In my system this is accurately determined, so if will 'look' at the monster you will get info:

Armor: 33
Damage decreased: from 39 to 90
Chance to hit: 79%


You see a dragon.
Armor: 5
Damage decreased: from 6 to 13
Chance to hit: 98%


[*] Every monster have other ammount of armor and defence, so he also have other modifiers

[*] Easily check if you are able to kill monster

[*] Chance to hit is in % and it's 100% true
